Slate Roof Upgrade: Installing a new breathable membrane, slate tiles and dry ridge system to properties in Bishop's Waltham

Our client had two neighbouring semi-detached properties in Bishop's Waltham that needed a slate roof upgrade as they had old slates and untreated roof battens. Bigwood Roofing were happy to take on the upgrade, as this work would give the roof enhanced durability and weather resistance, superior moisture and condensation management, and improved energy efficiency.

Improving roof membrane, tiles and ridges

Remove old roofing tiles and battens

To start with, our team carefully stripped back all of the old slates and battens to allow us to install a brand new breathable membrane for optimal moisture resistance.

Install treated battens

Following this, we replaced the old wooden battens with properly treated timber battens for a longer lifespan.

Lay new slate roof tiles

Our team then installed Cupa Pizarras European slate tiles to the roof for a fresh, clean look and improved durability.

Install dry ridge system

We completed the new roof by installing a dry ridge system on the hips and ridges of the roof - this modern option ensures that the roofing system is fully weather-resistance, with built-in ventilation to prevent condensation and flexibility to accommodate roof movement. Finished with quality ridge tiles in a terracotta finish, the final result was a roof with a sleek, classic look.
